Four Ideas Define the New i3.
Sixth-Generation eDrive
The i3 introduces BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology, pairing dual electric motors with a new high-voltage battery architecture designed around performance, efficiency and long-distance electric driving.
Panoramic iDrive
BMW Panoramic iDrive creates a new relationship between the driver and the vehicle, combining BMW Panoramic Vision, a central display, steering-wheel controls, voice operation and BMW Operating System X.
Heart of Joy
BMW Heart of Joy coordinates key driving-dynamics systems including the electric drivetrain, braking, recuperation and selected steering functions.
A New Kind of BMW Cockpit.
The Neue Klasse experience continues inside the cabin with BMW Panoramic iDrive, a new central display and an available 3D Head-Up Display. The layout places information, controls and digital features around the driver while maintaining the clean, driver-focused character expected from a BMW sports sedan.

The BMW i3 50 xDrive combines dual electric motors with an 800-volt architecture designed around long-distance electric driving and rapid charging.
Built for High-Power Charging.
The new BMW i3 uses an 800-volt electrical architecture with DC fast-charging capability of up to 400 kW.
The i3 uses a North American Charging Standard connector, with CCS access supported through an adapter. Maximum charging performance depends on charging equipment, battery state of charge, battery temperature, ambient conditions, vehicle configuration and other factors.
The new architecture is designed to reduce charging downtime when compatible high-power charging equipment is available.
An Electric BMW That Can Give Energy Back.
The new BMW i3 introduces bidirectional charging capabilities designed to expand how drivers can use stored energy.
BMW has announced Vehicle-to-Load, Vehicle-to-Home and Vehicle-to-Grid functionality for the new i3, subject to compatible equipment, infrastructure and service availability.
That creates opportunities for the i3 to interact with compatible electrical systems beyond simply supplying energy to its electric motors.

A New Electric BMW for Southern California.
For drivers around Alhambra, Pasadena, Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley, the BMW i3 combines long-distance electric capability with the size, handling and refinement of a premium sports sedan.
Its estimated driving range is designed to make normal Southern California commuting easy while giving drivers additional flexibility for weekends and longer road trips.
And with high-power DC charging capability of up to 400 kW, the new electrical architecture is designed to minimize charging downtime when compatible high-speed charging is available.

BMW i3 series production begins at BMW Group Plant Munich in Germany.
Ordering Scheduled to Begin
BMW says ordering for the launch i3 50 xDrive is scheduled to begin in Q4 2026.

BMW USA states that the new BMW i3 Sedan is expected to become available in the United States beginning in 2027.
